What exactly is a ‘Smart’ roller garage door and why would I need one?
The use of ‘smart’ is increasing all the time now with so many electric home products, usually controlled or managed via a smartphone app and even desktop applications too. In the UK now so many of us are used to ‘smart doorbells’ for example, which enable us to see when someone comes to our front door and then we can record their activity, speak to them directly from wherever we happen to be, all via our smartphone, a device for many now which is practically attached to us 24/7. Simple Smartphone Control
The simplest smart app integration is literally having your smartphone behave just like a traditional remote handset, with an up or down button on your screen, or just a button for impulse in either direction as well as stop. This of course can be done from literally anywhere and not just within radio transmission range like a normal handset for a garage door. The extra safety measures included on any smart controlled electric doors are to prevent closure on obstacles when you could literally be operating the door from your hotel room in any country in the world. This is usually additional infra red safety beams across the opening to work alongside the obstacle detection system in the bottom slat of the roller door.
This would be the same for electric entrance gates, although they should already have compliant safety systems in place to be legal for use in the UK. Far more serious consequences with electric gates that have no safety sensors….
Full Smart Home Control?
With certain roller door models we offer the control panels and the app integration to allow for a far smarter set of actions to take place, such as automatic closing for example, if you forget to close your garage door when leaving then this is a useful setting to adopt.
An exact indication of the position of your door is also possible with IO protocol and Somfy IO motor drive, so you can tell without seeing exactly where your door curtain is from the 2 way communication.
The ‘Full’ Smart control and integration using Somfy Tahoma Switch opens up a massive world of other options for control of various products around your home.
