SeceuroGlide Excel Security Roller Garage Door
The SeceuroGlide Excel is the first roller garage door of any kind to pass independent burglary resistance testing recognised nationally by both the police and the insurance industry. It's certified to LPS 1175 at Level 1 by the Loss Prevention Certification Board under certificate ref. 390b/01, and it carries Secured by Design Police Preferred Specification status. That's not a marketing claim, it's a certificate you can look up.
Everything else that makes the SeceuroGlide Classic a good door is still here. Insulated twin walled aluminium slats, electric operation with two handsets included, an optical safety edge, and a curtain that rolls up overhead so you keep the full width of your opening. The Excel adds the reinforced construction that got it through the attack tests.

Why the Garage is Usually the Weakest Point of a House
Most people fit a good front door, decent window locks and maybe an alarm, then leave the largest opening in the building protected by a thin steel panel and a single centre lock. Burglars know this. Police crime prevention guidance puts it very directly: an opportunistic burglar will try a shed or garage first, because that's where they'll find the tools they need to break into the main house. So the garage isn't just where your car, your bikes and your tools live. On a lot of houses it's also the quietest route into the rest of the property.
If You Have an Integral Garage, Read This Bit
An integral garage is one that's built into the house with a connecting door into the hallway, kitchen or utility room. That connecting door is almost always a builder's standard fire door on a closer, and in security terms it's usually the weakest door in the whole house.
Crime prevention guidance is clear that this door should be treated exactly as if it were an external door, and warns that if the vehicle access door is left unlocked, a burglar can force the integral door open without being seen from the street at all. The minimum specification that guidance recommends for that connecting door is worth reading if only to check yours against it:
- 44mm minimum thickness with a solid core
- Fire resistant to the period required by Building Regulations, with a door closer fitted
- Hung on three hinges
- A mortice sashlock certificated to BS 3621, positioned near the centre of the door
- A pair of key operated mortice security bolts
Very few integral doors in UK housing stock have all of that. If yours doesn't, then your garage door is the barrier that's actually doing the work, and once someone is through it they're working out of sight of the road with your tools to hand. That's the case for a certified garage door rather than a standard one, and it's the single biggest reason people choose the Excel over the Classic.

What the Certification Actually Means
There's a lot of loose security language in this market. Words like "high security" and "insurance approved" get used on doors that have never been independently tested. Here's what sits behind the Excel.
LPS 1175 and the LPCB
LPS 1175 is the Loss Prevention Standard used in the UK to test how well a building component resists forced entry. It's operated by the Loss Prevention Certification Board, the UK's leading independent certification body. Products are attacked under timed conditions by trained testers using the sort of tools a burglar would realistically carry, so knives, levers, screwdrivers and bodily force.
The Excel is certified at Level 1, also written as SR1 depending on which issue of the standard you're reading, under certificate ref. 390b/01. Level 1 covers resistance to opportunist attempts at forced entry using physical force and a limited range of tools. Worth knowing: unlike lower security ratings, which are tested using stealth methods only, Level 1 testing puts no restriction on how much noise the attacker is allowed to make. The Excel resisted a prolonged, noisy, physical attack.

Secured by Design
Secured by Design is the official UK police initiative for designing out crime. Products only get the Police Preferred Specification if they've been independently tested to the standard, and manufacture is audited by UKAS with regular production re-tests to make sure the certified design is still what's leaving the factory.
Secured by Design publish figures showing that developments built to their standards are 75% less likely to be burgled than non SBD developments, with over a million UK homes now built to those standards.
Insurance
The Excel is recognised by major UK home insurance underwriters, and some insurers will improve cover terms or premiums where certified doors and locks are fitted. It's worth a phone call to your insurer with the certificate reference to hand, particularly if you keep a classic car, motorbikes, high value bicycles or trade tools in the garage. We can't promise a discount because insurers treat this differently, but a certificate number is a much better conversation than a brochure.
Security Built In
The Excel's rating doesn't come from a bolt on lock. It comes from eight components engineered into the door, two of which are Excel only and are the reason it passed the tests when a standard roller door wouldn't.

Excel or Classic? How to Choose
Both doors look similar from the road and both are police approved. The difference is what happens under a sustained physical attack, and whether you need certification that an insurer will recognise.
Choose the Classic if you want a good quality insulated electric roller door with police approved security and there's no integral access into the house.
Choose the Excel if the garage connects into your home, if you store a vehicle or equipment worth insuring properly, if you've had a break in or a local spate of them, or if you simply want the certificate rather than the claim.

Automation, Safety and Warranty
Every Excel is supplied electric as standard. There's no manual version, and the locking is designed around powered operation.
SeceuroSense Plus control unit with a built in LED courtesy light and push button control on the receiver.- Two remote handsets included in the price. You can pick both styles, so one for the car and one on a wall bracket in the garage or hallway if that suits you better.
- Optical safety edge built into the bottom rubber seal. It detects an obstruction and reverses the curtain, which matters if you have children, pets or a habit of parking close.
- Internal manual override supplied as standard for use in a power cut.
- Somfy motor and Rollixo control unit available, with the Rollixo bringing an integrated acoustic alarm.
- 7 year automation warranty covering the motor and control unit, and that now includes the Somfy motor and Rollixo control unit, not just the SeceuroDrive range
- Up to 10 years cover on the door itself depending on finish, with laminate finishes carrying the longest term.
Optional extras include an external wireless keypad for PIN entry without a handset, a surface mounted external key switch, an internal wireless wall switch, and an alarm module for the SeceuroSense system.

Made to Measure Sizes
Every door is manufactured to your exact opening, down to the millimetre, at no extra cost. Single and double garage widths are both catered for, up to [[confirm max width]] wide. Because the curtain rolls up overhead rather than swinging out or tracking back, you keep the full width of the opening, which is the usual reason people move to a roller door from an up and over when they've bought a wider vehicle.

Finishes
The Excel is available in a wide choice of hard wearing powder coated solid colours and textured woodgrain laminate finishes, with bespoke RAL powder coating available on request. The laminate range was substantially expanded when SWS UK added 25 new RENOLIT laminates and two further shades of grey to the 77mm curtain range so matching modern uPVC windows or a composite front door is usually straightforward. Matching guide channels are available, and woodgrain doors come with end plates finished to suit the grain.
Installation Positions
This is important and we'd rather be straight about it. To keep the LPS 1175 Level 1 certification and the insurance recognition that goes with it, the Excel must be fitted to the internal face of the opening or between the reveal. It isn't certified when fitted to the outside face of the building.
Two practical consequences worth knowing before you order:
- The door can't be fitted with an external manual release lock. Drilling through the curtain or guides creates the exact vulnerability the certification exists to prevent.
- So you need a second way into the garage. A pedestrian side door or an integral door into the house is essential, otherwise a power cut leaves you unable to reach the internal override handle.
Internal face fixing behind the piers gives you the most drive through width and height, which is what we'd normally recommend for a 4x4 or a wide estate. Reveal fixing suits openings where the piers or headroom are tight. If you're not sure which applies to your garage, give us a ring and talk it through before you order.
Who This Door Suits
- Integral garages. Where the garage connects into the house, the garage door is a house door. Treat it like one.
- Classic cars, motorbikes and high value bicycles. Certification you can quote to an insurer, plus autolocking that engages every single time without anyone remembering to do anything.
- Tradespeople storing tools at home. UK police forces recorded 26,724 tool thefts in 2025, roughly one every 20 minutes, with an average loss of £1,307 and an estimated £35 million of tools taken over the year. Their own advice includes parking in a garage where you can. That only helps if the garage door holds.
- Homes on quiet lanes, corner plots and rear alleys. Anywhere an attack on the garage wouldn't be overlooked.
- Anyone who's already been burgled. Repeat victimisation is real, and a certified door is a visible change of posture.
- Wide vehicles. A roller door gives you the whole opening, unlike an up and over or a sectional with tracks.
The UK Picture, and Why Garage Security Is Worth the Money
Household burglary in England and Wales has been falling for years, and that's genuinely good news. Police recorded burglary was down 9% to 223,456 offences in the year ending March 2026. What's moving the other way is theft from around the outside of the home. Over the same period the Crime Survey for England and Wales recorded other household theft up 21% to around 791,000 incidents, driven by increases in theft from outside a dwelling.
That's the pattern we see in the enquiries we take. Front doors and windows have improved a lot over twenty years. Garages, driveways and outbuildings mostly haven't, so that's where the opportunist goes.
Four Questions Worth Asking About Any Roller Garage Door
SWS UK put these in their homeowner buying guide and they're a fair test to apply to any door you're comparing, including ours:
- Is it independently tested, by whom, and can you see the certificate?
- Does it carry recognised security certification, or just security sounding words?
- Who actually stands behind the warranty, the manufacturer or the installer?
- Will replacement parts still be available in ten years?
Roller garage doors look almost identical from the outside. The materials, the engineering and the locking are what you're really buying, and they're the parts you can't see on a photograph. A door gets used thousands of times over its life, so the cheaper door is often the one that costs more in the end, through repairs, poor reliability and an early replacement.

Is the SeceuroGlide Excel really the most secure garage door available? It's the first roller garage door to achieve LPCB LPS 1175 Level 1 certification, and SWS UK state it's recognised by insurers as the most secure garage door on the market. What we'd say more precisely is this: it's the roller garage door with the strongest independently verified certification, under certificate ref. 390b/01, and that certification is what an insurer will actually recognise.
What's the difference between LPS 1175 Level 1 and SR1? They're the same rating described in different generations of the standard. Older issues of LPS 1175 used Levels, later issues used Security Ratings from SR1 to SR8, and the current issue uses a threat level and delay classification. The certificate reference, 390b/01, is the constant. If you're checking anything with an insurer, quote that.
Will the Excel reduce my home insurance premium? It might, but we can't promise it. Insurers treat certified security products differently and some will improve terms or premiums while others won't adjust anything. What we can tell you is that LPS 1175 is endorsed by 16 organisations including the Association of British Insurers, so it's a certification your insurer will recognise. Ring them with the certificate reference and ask.
Can the Excel be fitted to the outside face of my garage? No, not if you want the certification to stand. LPS 1175 Level 1 approval applies to internal face fixing and reveal fixing only. If your garage can only take an externally fitted door, we can talk you through other options in the SeceuroGlide range.
Why can't I have an external key release on it? Because drilling through the curtain or the guides to fit one creates exactly the weak point the certification is designed to eliminate. It's the one genuine trade off with this door. It means your garage needs a second means of access, either a pedestrian door or an integral door into the house, so you can reach the internal manual override in a power cut.
Do I need the Excel if my garage is detached? Not necessarily. If there's no connecting door into the house, the SeceuroGlide Classic with Secured by Design approval is a sensible choice and costs less. The Excel makes most sense where the garage gives access to the home, or where what's stored inside justifies certified protection in its own right.
What sizes can I have? Every door is made to measure to your exact opening at no extra cost, single or double width, up to [[confirm max width]] wide. Just make sure you allow proper fitting tolerance when you measure, and that the floor is reasonably level across the opening.
What does the warranty cover and who backs it? The automation carries a 7 year warranty covering the motor and control unit, and that includes the Somfy motor and Rollixo control unit as well as the SeceuroDrive range. The door itself carries up to 10 years depending on the finish you choose, with laminate finishes getting the longest term. It's a manufacturer backed warranty from SWS UK, who have been manufacturing in the UK since 1985.
Is the Excel noisy? No. The security webbing down each side of the curtain is there partly for security and partly to quieten the curtain as it runs, and the insulated slat construction damps the sound further. It's noticeably quieter than an uninsulated single skin roller door.
Does it insulate the garage? To a degree. The slats are twin walled aluminium filled with CFC free polyurethane foam, and the guides carry brush weatherstripping, so you get better thermal and draught performance than a single skin door. It isn't a substitute for insulating the walls and roof if you're converting the space.
